Transfer Co. Food Hall is thrilled to be hosting the 2022 Real Matter Summer Lecture Series with in situ studio! This two-week design workshop will feature tours, guest lectures, and collaborative projects. Participants are given the opportunity to interact with community leaders and design professionals, while also building a network with peers from across the country.
The application-based workshop is open to students and young professionals from across the United States in an effort to challenge the perception, value, and relevancy of the practice of architecture in Raleigh, one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. While specific to Raleigh, workshop projects address urban challenges that face many American cities.

Last year’s workshop welcomed eighteen participants from six states and eight universities. While here, participants developed critical design solutions for social problems found in the city. The work participants created last year was the subject of a public exhibit on 08 07 21 at Transfer Co. Food Hall. The workshop lecture series was also open to the public, with over 750 people attending, and sparked a critical dialogue about the future of the built environment in downtown Raleigh. 2021 lecturers included Sekou Cooke, Jonathan Tate, TEd’A, and LEVENBETTS.
